Woman in HammockSummer 2008!

Gals!

Summer 2008 is already here. The weather is getting weird. We had some early days of June with hot, humid and hazy weather.

We were grateful for Sue P to come forward and host the Spring Tea Party last March 15, 2008. She did a marvelous job to make the event possible at the Rocky Hill Marriott Hotel. Thanks to the Relay Connecticut/Sprint Relay to sponsor the event, we had an excellent tea luncheon and enjoyed our guest speaker, Debbie Boutwell.

Debbie provided a wonderful presentation about her Hackney's Hope Farm including horses, riding program, and horse care. Also, she shared her passion and love of horses. Her new web site will be upcoming soon. (www.hackneyshopefarm.com)

There will be Elders Gathering at the Sunray Peace Village in Lincoln, Vermont for the weekend of July 25 to 27, 2008. The Gathering will start on Friday at sunrise ceremony, and then will continue until Sunday at 6:00 p.m. Thanks to Eliza Goodhue, RID certified interpreter, she will be there to interpret for the deaf group. She would like to invite another interpreter if you know who may like to join please contact her at Email. There will be more workshops on Monday through Wednesday with individual elders. Cassandra will be there with her family for the weekend. You are welcome to attend. Please visit the Sunray Meditation Society web site.

Friends,

The time of the year that we live for is rapidly approaching.  The Summer Gadugis and then the arrival of the Elders for their annual gathering to share with us that which is appropriate in this time.

In preparing for housing and feeding the Elders and making them feel at home; we have begun to gather donations from the many generous donors both commercial and private who wish to help make this great event possible.

We want all of you to join with us by spreading the word that the Elders Gathering is happening July 25-27 with Elders workshops on the 28th and 29th.  Preparations of the land, the Arbor, the kitchen and dining areas will begin July 21st and is a wonderful time to get to know the Peacekeepers and make new friends and renew old friendships from all over the world.
There is something for everyone including a children's program, ceremonies, songs, dances, storytelling, and of course the wisdom streams from many nations.

We are in need of food and monetary donations to support the feeding of the Elders and volunteers during the Gathering.  Please look to see if you have some food stuffs you can donate or a small monetary contribution that we can turn into a beautiful offering to the Elders.  Its a good time to renew that bulk food you have put away for emergencies or clean out the freezer or if your garden is abundant have something to share.  The staff and volunteers can be a hungry group.

Please make it known to those who want to come that we have a work-study program which virtually allows all that are willing to serve a useful function at the Gathering to be there.

As usual full time work (6hrs/day or 2 meals in the kitchen, dishes,or dining) will earn you free admission and meals...all you have to pay for is camping.  And this year, for the first time we are offering and of the volunteers who put in a total of 30hrs over the course of the week the opportunity to take a one day Peacekeeper training on Wed July 30th as token of our appreciation.

La Cantina will be open to feed the public and those who do part time work with fresh reasonably priced meals and snacks.

So please come and join with us during this incredible Gathering.  Go to www.sunray.org and register.  There you can request work-study or if you like pay your registration fee and enjoy the Elders; camp under stars and make prayer offerings at the sacred fire in the Arbor.

Remember Saturday Night is the Cherokee Healing Ceremony open to the public.  Get there early(7pm) and bring a chair or blanket).

Please email me with any offerings of food or other contributions you wish to make at artobey@gmavt.net  or call 802-453-3211 or 5327

Peace,
Andrew Tobey

Regrettably, there will be no Annual Family picnic this year but please contact us if you are willing to share your ideas and support for DWC.

We like to share some news as follows:

~Our heartfelt condolences for our DWC member, Justine Russell, West Hartford for the loss of her husband, Edward last month.

~Based on our Fall 2007 main feature about witches and wicca, we learned that the bill in CT was brought up by direct descendants of witches in hope to pardon all witches and restore their relatives' good names. Same with Massachusetts.

~There are three vacant board officer, program coordinator and program assistant coordinator for DWC. Please let us know if you like to share more ideas about growing new members, events, workshops and others. We will plan to get together one day but this gathering will be private only by invitation.

~There will be the Deaf Women of New England conference hosted in Burlington, Vermont during Friday, November 14 through Sunday, November 16, 2008. For more info, visit the conference web site.

All sections including Member Profile will be upcoming this Fall 2008. We are seeking more stories, new features, recipes, health information and others from you. Please don't be afraid to share your writings with us.

DWCLY yours,

Cassandra and June
