Deaf Women United Conference 2005

Turf Valley Resort - Golf Course in the Morning Alice, Cinda and Cassandra attended the DWU conference during June 25-29, 2005 and admired a beautiful foggy golf course one morning from their hotel room at the Turf Valley Resort, Spa & Conference Center in Ellicot City, Maryland. The weather was hot and humid. Unexpectedly the air conditioner did not work well in some rooms but our room seemed working fine. The resort offered the golf course, driving range, two outdoor and inside pools, and nice surroundings. It was remote from shopping as though we did not have car if we wished to go out shopping or to eat out.
DWU members - Field Trip to Inner Harbor

The entertainment on Sunday evening was about Menstruation Monologue which we found the most enjoyable and memorable event. It was about how the changes reflected during menstruation among all women from Victorian era to the present. We shared our most embarrassing moments.

Tiffany Williams-Granfors, a keynote speaker gave us an inspiring message, “Get out of comfort level”, that it became a popular phrase used by the majority of DWU participants during the conference.

There were various workshops but we tried the best to attend some. Cinda joined three other women for the Deaf Women in Science, Mathematics & Engineering panel to share their experiences. Please feel free to visit their DWSE web site.

Two other women from Connecticut – Linda Clark, West Hartford and Lisa Vaughn, Enfield attended, too. At the conference, we bumped into a former DWC member, Liz Katz, formerly West Hartford who currently lives in Maryland.

Next DWU conference 2007 will be in New Orleans , Louisiana
